SCRIP

SCRIP "101"
Our SCRIP program helps keep our tuition low.

OLPH SELLS SCRIP TO LOWER YOUR TUITION SUBSTANTIALLY.  FOR THAT REASON, IT BENEFITS EVERYONE TO MAXIMIZE ALL SCRIP PURCHASES.

WHEN DO WE SELL?

We sell SCRIP before and after school, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  You can also send an order with your child.

WHAT DIFFERENT WAYS DOES OLPH BENEFIT FROM SCRIP?

Presently, OLPH benefits from SCRIP in 3 ways.

1.)  IMMEDIATE PURCHASE:  OLPH buys the most commonly-bought SCRIP every week and sells these items until they run out.  These items include gas, groceries, restaurants, popular retailers, etc.  With just groceries and gas, most families can reach their quota for SCRIP purchases.

2.)  PRE-PAID PURCHASE:  OLPH sweetens the deal by allowing you to order SCRIP that we don't normally keep in inventory.  The OLPH SCRIP Order Form contains SCRIP retailers most often pre-ordered.  However, we also provide a link on this page to the Great Lakes SCRIP Center's complete retailer list.  You may contact SCRIP program head, Lori Beehler, about ordering SCRIP that is not on the OLPH order form.

3.)  DIRECT RECEIPTS:  Some retailers offer community cards, and give money back to the school.  Presently, we have narrowed these retailers down to Target and Ralphs.  With Target, you must nominate OLPH as your recipient of Target's community contributions, and then use their credit card for purchases.  A portion of those purchases will go to the school.  You would turn in a copy of your credit card statements (with the account number blacked out, as well as any other personal information you wish to keep private).  For Ralph's, you must select OLPH as a recipient of Ralph's donations, then use the card for purchases, and turn in the receipts for credit (monthly is good).

We no longer accept Albertson's and Von's as direct receipts.  These stores now have card "immediate"  SCRIP, and you must purchase this SCRIP ahead of time for your purchase to count towards your yearly goal.  Using these community cards only contributes a tiny fraction of profit to the school.

PRINTED RECEIPTS FOR YOUR RECORDS

Each time you buy SCRIP, you will get a printed receipt from the computer entry of your order.  This receipt includes date, amount of each card purchased, serial numbers of each card, and your year-to-date purchases so you can see where you stand in your contractual purchases.

IF SCRIP COSTS ME NOTHING ABOVE MY NORMAL PURCHASE COSTS, HOW DOES SCRIP BENEFIT THE SCHOOL?

SCRIP is one of the easiest ways to support the school, because SCRIP costs you nothing more than you would normally pay for goods like groceries, gas, restaurants, and department store items.

The concept is simple. You buy SCRIP, which are pre-paid gift cards. The SCRIP company sells these gift cards at a discount, which is given to the school.

For instance, if you buy $50 worth of Stater Bros SCRIP cards, you receive $50 worth of gift cards. The school receives the discount, which would be 5% in that case.

In reality, many people who wish to purchase gift cards save money with SCRIP.  You will find that retailers who sell gift cards often charge an activation fee that is deducted from the value of the card.  This is not the case with SCRIP.  You receive full value.

HOW TO BUY

SCRIP Purchase days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - morning dropoff and afternoon pickup times. We accept checks and cash.

Prepaid purchase: The SCRIP order form can be printed right from the website.  Also, on the days you get the brown envelope, you will receive the SCRIP order form. Mark it, include a check, and return it in the envelope.  For prepaid SCRIP, make sure it comes back by Tuesday morning so you can receive your SCRIP by Thursday of the same week. For SCRIP in stock, you should receive the SCRIP that day in your oldest child's backpack. Please remember to check. If it is out of stock, you should still receive a receipt telling you the SCRIP should be delivered by Thursday.

SCRIP ON A DEADLINE

Sometimes you need SCRIP by a certain day, or else you will no longer have a need for it.  Please make a note on the order form of these date requirements, and a cell phone where we can reach you.  That way neither of us is stuck with SCRIP that is not usable.

CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION:

You must purchase $4000 a year in SCRIP to meet your contractual obligations with OLPH School, no matter how many students are in your family. Between food and gas, this is fairly easy if you plan ahead. But remember, this money hugely supplements the budget for your child's education. Please continue to buy SCRIP even after you meet the required purchase.

USING SCRIP WISELY:

The SCRIP team, as well as Great Lakes SCRIP, documents SCRIP purchases precisely, using a computer program.  We record the Serial Numbers, etc. The SCRIP serial numbers readily identify these cards as different from the gift cards sold in stores.  Your receipt contains the serial number of your SCRIP purchase.

Occasionally, the strip on the card doesn't work, and the cashier may not know how to enter the SCRIP into their register. Sometimes they tell you the SCRIP isn't activated.  That is never the case.  There is a number on the back of the SCRIP, and usually a telephone to call to check the activation and balance.  Call this number to check your SCRIP.  If the magnetic STRIP becomes bad, the card can be replaced.  With gas cards, you simply call them and they will send a new card by mail.  If you have any issues, please contact your SCRIP chairperson.

In this economy, it is very important to remember that you should make careful choices about which SCRIP to buy.  Great Lakes has managed business well, and tries to be proactive about removing availability of SCRIP for businesses who are facing bankruptcy, for instance.  Try to use what you have purchased quickly, especially if the SCRIP is not for groceries or gas.  Laws vary, but you risk losing the value of the SCRIP, or any gift card, for that matter, in certain bankruptcy filings, especially after liquidation starts.  Neither OLPH nor Great Lakes SCRIP is responsible for these losses.  Please choose wisely and purchase in the right timeframe for use.

SCRIP is almost like cash.  That means you must protect it like cash.  If lost, once the finder has spent the SCRIP, you are unlikely to get reimbursed.  If SCRIP is lost or stolen, contact Lori Beehler immediately.   An immediate claim will help allow the company to remove the old, lost SCRIP from the system and replace it with a new card.  This is not guaranteed with all the SCRIP you buy.
