Friday, March 12 - IGNORE THE YEAR CALENDAR.....DUE TO CHANGES IN THE WASC VISIT DATES, WE DO, INDEED, HAVE SCHOOL

So, what days are off?

WASC will be visiting from March 16 - 18 (Tuesday through Thursday).  School is in session.. 

However, Thursday, March 18, is a half day, and that is the day we have the El Torito fundraiser - buy SCRIP, and el Torito will also return a portion of the proceeds to the school - go for lunch right after you pick up your child, or go for dinner,  We understand you can make reservations this year.  Also, be sure to bring the paper in your packet so the school will get credit.

No school on Friday, March 19, because of the annual Religious Education Congress sponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which most school staff will attend with thousands of others around the San Bernardino Diocese.  If you have never attended the Religious Ed Congress, and are unfamiliar with its mission, visit its website::  http://www.recongress.org/ .  Perhaps you would be interested in attending one of the events still open to registration.  Or, you can enjoy the webcast on the website.

No school on Monday, March 22 - teachers' rest, recuperation and celebration day after WASC and the Congress.

For Holy Week and Easter:  School is out from March 31 - April 9. 

Because of Fiesta, no school on April 30, the day the fiesta begins.

The second half of tuition is due January 15th, 2010

We would like to get our own families registered first.  Please come to the school office and fill out a form stating that you will be sending your child to OLPH School in September.  Kindergarten students who are not in our preschool will be tested.

HELP NEEDED THIS FRIDAY AFTER ASSEMBLY….WE NEED TO STUFF FIESTA RAFFLE TICKETS.  LOTS OF HANDS WILL MAKE THE JOB EASY!!!! COME TO THE HALL AND HAVE COFFEE AND STUFF ENVELOPES.

Start collecting egg shells and confetti for the confetti egg drive beginning on Feb. 16th   Next meeting  March 1st.

FIESTA T-SHIRT CONTEST  for grades 6,7,8 is taking place now.  Designs must be turned into the school office no later than March 1.  Theme:  “Service to God”

April 12th will be Soda Week, you can start purchasing it now and keep it at home until then.  This booth is our biggest money maker.  2 liter bottles are needed.

Plant and Book sale will take place in the Kindergarten play yard during fiesta.  We will need books to sell, so start cleaning out and keep them in your garage until April 12th.  Plants also are needed to sell, if you have any contacts please contact  Mrs. Mena.  Check the web site for more fiesta updates.

We need a speaker for the roof of the office building during fiesta to make our sound reach further.  If you can help with this call the office.

Solicitation…Are you good at asking for donations, we can really use you for the Auction.  We need help to gather items for the silent and the big auction on Sunday. 

Please check our the lost and found rack.  We have lunch pails, a little of everything??  Heavy sweat shirts are also missing please check your child’s name in his sweatshirt.

Sweat bottoms must be worn over their shorts. They should be plain navy blue.   Sweats may not be worn to church.
FYI  PLEASE CHECK FOR ANY DEFACING OF UNIFORM. ESPECIALLY SWEATSHIRTS.

When you start looking for these, they are everywhere!!  Thank you to Mrs. Maltese who is patiently counting all of these and getting money or sports balls for our school.  Please take the time to tear off the box tops and soup labels and send them to school.  Last month we received a check for $370 for box tops.  We thank the Parish Pantry for saving these items for us.  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Maltese at 750-9345.

Take  time to check out the complete web site.  Our hope is by next year, that every parent is comfortable in reading their bulletin and announcements on line and has access.  This will save the school $$$ in paper and time.  Please be advised that all information that is on the page has been approved by Mrs. Moore our Principal.

• Make sure that your child is kept home if there is any sign of sickness or fever. Please call the office if your child is not in school.
• Forms for medication at school need to be completed each year.  Make sure your child’s forms are updated if they have ashma!.
• All blue Emergency Cards need to be returned by Friday.

The student council will collect clothing on the first Friday of each month.  Please bring clothing on that day only, due to a storage problem.

•    Please order your lunch on line from Cater Tots. If you need to have an order blank, you can pick up one in the office.
•    Check out the new school bumper stickers for your car. $3
•    Please make sure that you have inhalers for your children at all sports events.  This is not the schools responsibility,  when they are at league games.  Please make sure the coach knows about your child’s asthma.
•    Parents, please check out our web site (thank  you to Mrs. Mena).  We would like to use your students pictures on this site.  We need your permission to do this.  We are missing 40 families return forms.  Please sign yes or no, if no, you do not need a reason.  This is very confidential and only the office will see these forms. Forms are included in this bulletin for families who are missing them.

• Due to safety reasons we cannot heat food for students at school.  Please remember only to bring food for your child, you cannot give food to other students without parent permission.

• Fingerprinting forms and Safe Environment  info:   Plan ahead and get fingerprinted and complete the safe Enviornment training before the fieldtrips begin.  To work on campus you must be cleared.  The cost for fingerprinting is $68.00 and you will receive 7 volunteer hours in return.
• All new immunizations given during the summer need to be turned into the office.
• Physicals for Kindergarten need to be in the office by September 30th.

PLEASE PAY YOUR BILL, AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE IT.  THIS  ACCOUNT HAS $6,500 IN OUT STANDING BILLS. 

The stickers can be purchased by everyone from the PTO to help advertise our school.  The cost is $3 each.

Please check out the Web site at least once a week.  Next year we will only be putting the bulletin on line.   Registration will be on line, as soon as the new  year’s tuition is settled on.  So now is the time to practice!!  Watch for the intent to register form and parish verification form coming soon.

If your child is in grade 4 or above and have received the Sacraments they may join the Altar Servers.  Please call office and they will connect you with Dawn or Nicholle Varga.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE ITEM YOU ARE TAKING, DOES NOT HAVE A NAME IN IT.  ESPECIALLY ON OUR SWEAT SHIRTS.  SWEAT SHIRTS FOUND ON THE BENCHES DO END UP ON THE LOST AND FOUND RACK.  MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENTS SHIRT HAS A NAME ON IT.

• Free in the daytime?  Class Librarians and P.E. helpers needed:  Please let your child’s teacher know if you could help with P.E. or help in the Library.
• Lunch Monitors needed, 11:00 A.M. TO 12:30 P.M.  please call the school office for more information.
• Volunteers must be fingerprinted and have taken the “Safe Environment” training.  Safe Environment training can be done on line, please check with the office.
   

Hot lunch is only for students who have ordered in advance.  Please make sure that your student brings their lunch each day.  Left over hot lunch will not be given to students. 
•         Needed  forks and spoons  (for your students to have when they forget from home)
•         New warmers have arrived, new items on the menu for December.

You can find the Safe Environment training link right here on the OLPHRiverside website, in the column with the calendar.  Take the training at any time, pass the final test, and print the certificate to turn into the office.  There is no cost for the training.

You must contact the rectory in the parish you belong for information.  If you child has been baptized and is ready for First Communion, please contact Mrs. Sintek in 2nd grade.

QUESTION OF THE YEAR:  Why do my children have to sign in each day  before going to their after school classes?  This is part of security check in case of an emergency.  We will know that all children are accounted for.

Remember, we have begun a new sign out and pick up procedure for students that are involved in any extra-curricular program.

Those students will go directly to extended care at the 2:30 pm bell and sign in. At the 2:45 pm bell, when the teacher/moderators for each activity are ready, they will close the door on the parking lot side of the room and open the doors on the playground side for the students that will attend a particular activity in that class.

When the activity is finished, all students must then go back to extended care, sign in and wait for parents to sign them out. No students may be dismissed from the parking lot side. There is no extended day charge from 2:30 – 2:45 pm. Billing begins at 2:45 pm. This is for you children’s safety. In case of an emergency we will know where to find your child.
